The issue Paul was addressing was the false gospel from some Jewish believers who were preaching that gentiles need to follow the law of circumcision in order to be truly born again – which was taking them away from the freedom in Christ. Throughout the previous chapters, Paul labored by telling these churches why that was a false gospel, teaching them about the origin of the Jewish laws and un the case of this letter to the gentile churches, the ceremonial law of circumcision. He taught them the purpose of these Jewish laws and why they were necessary.
